Here’s an interesting health tip from a 109-year old woman: avoid men.
Jessie Gallan has been officially named the oldest woman in Scotland. And when asked about her secret to living such a long life, she had a hilarious and candid answer.
According to her, the secret to a long and healthy life boils down to two simple deeds: to eat porridge for breakfast every day, and most importantly, to avoid men.
Jessie, who celebrated her 109th birthday with a slice of cake in her Abeerden care home, says simply:
“My secret to a long life has been staying away from men. They’re just more trouble than they’re worth.
“I also made sure that I got plenty of exercise, eat a nice warm bowl of porridge every morning and have never gotten married.”
But that’s not really a surprising thing, considering this centenarian’s life story.
Jessie has never been married. And she has always lived an independent life.
She left home at 13 to work as a milkmaid, then as a farm kitchen helper. She then worked at a hotel which was visited by the Queen herself.
“I always worked hard and seldom would I ever take a holiday. I left home when I was 13 and began a job milking cows.
“I always had good jobs with very nice people. It’s amazing to see how completely different the world is now from the one I grew up in.”
The charming old lady is a joy to everyone around her and often makes people laugh.
Senior support worker Rebecca Streeter, for example, only has good things to say about Jessie,
“Jessie still takes part in the group activities, she likes her exercise.
“She goes to all the concerts and enjoys her church on a Sunday. And obviously she has led a very healthy lifestyle.”
